Abstract
The author has investigated the effect of mitomycin (Mm) on the Klebsiella phage-host cell system and the following results were obtained.
The Mm did not show any effect to the phage adsorption. The phage growth, however, was damaged by it.
The recovery of the normal and Mm resistant bacteria-passed phage on various Mm resistant bacteria was similar regardless of the Mm resistance grade.
The phage growth in Mm resistant bacteria was worse than that in normal bacteria.
The producing rate of halo-contained plaque of the normal phage on Mm resistant bacteria was a little higher than that on normal bacteria. But, that of Mm resistant bacteria-passed phage on both bacteria was similar level.
The multiplicity reactivation-forming ability of the phage produced under Mm presence was much reduced and this damaged character was recovered by passing the phage through normal host bacteria.
The ultraviolet resistance of the phage produced under Mm presence was similar to that of normal phage.
In the Mm dose of 0.05mg/ml, the host bacteria growled a little and the phage activity was stable.
